AMES, Iowa ? Missouri had 26 hits en route to a doubleheader sweep of Iowa State Wednesday afternoon at the Southwest Athletic Complex. The Tigers took the first game 12-1 before wrapping up the afternoon with a 6-0 victory over the Cyclones.
The Cyclones (26-23, 3-10 Big 12) were unable to get anything going offensively against the Tigers (42-13, 9-5), collecting just six hits in the two game Big 12 series.
In the first game, Missouri scored three runs in the first and third and added six more in the fourth to earn the five-inning win. Amanda Renth, Lindsey Ubrun and Abby Vock homered in the opening game, with Renth's being a three-run shot in the third.
Iowa State's lone run came in the bottom of the second as Amanda Bradberry beat the throw home on Jacquelyn Beatty's grounder back to the pitcher. The run made it 3-1 but that was all the closer the Cyclones would get as Missouri rattled off the next nine runs to break open the game.
In the second game, Missouri again jumped out to an early lead, scoring three in the first and two in the second off ISU starter Rachel Zabriskie. Zabriskie settled in after the second and didn't allow another run until Renth's homer in the seventh inning. Julie Silver also had a homer for the Tigers in the game.
Carleigh Berry finished 2-for-2 on the day for the Cyclones, getting hits in both pinch hit appearances. Berry singled up the middle in the first game and roped a double to left center in the nightcap.
Renth paced the Tigers, going 5-for-7 with five RBI on the day. Vock was 3-for-3 with three RBI in the first game but was held hitless in the second.
Charissa Carlin (10-8) and Zabriskie (12-10) took the losses for the Cyclones.
Jen Bruck (15-7) gave up just two hits in four innings to get the win for Missouri in the first game. Stacy Delaney (17-3) took a perfect game into the sixth inning and held ISU off to earn the second-game win.
The Cyclones will be back in action Saturday as they head to Lubbock, Texas to face Big 12 foe Texas Tech. First pitch for Saturday's game is slated for 2 p.m.
