Cyclones Drop Pair of Games To No. 6 Texas A&M

AMES, Iowa ? Sixth-ranked Texas A&M proved too much for Iowa State Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader by scores of 11-1 and 9-1 at the Southwest Athletic Complex in Ames.

With the wins, Texas A&M improves to 36-6 overall and 8-0 in Big 12 play while the Cyclones drop to 23-17 and 1-5 in league action.

In the first game, Iowa State's pitching staff hit seven batters and walked five as the Aggies took advantage of the free passes and went on to the 11-1 win. Jamie Hinshaw paced the Aggies, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Hinshaw was one of eight Texas A&M players to drive in a run in the first game.

The Cyclones collected just four hits as Megan Gibson (22-0) remained undefeated on the season, striking out seven to pick up the win. Rachel Zabriskie (11-7) took the loss for ISU, giving up seven runs on five hits in just 1.1 innings.

Iowa State was better offensively in the second game, getting seven hits and taking a 1-0 first-inning lead on a run-scoring double from Alex Johnson, but Texas A&M had 13 hits en route to the 9-1 win.

The Cyclones left six on base in the game while A&M did most of its damage in the second and fourth innings, scoring three in the second and four in the fourth.

Natalie Villarreal finished 3-for-3 with four RBI and Kelsey Spittler was 3-for-3 with two RBI to pace the Aggie offensive attack. Hinshaw also had a homer in the game.

Rhiannon Kliesing (10-4) got the second-game win for the Aggies, giving up one run on seven hits.

Charissa Carlin (8-6) got the loss, giving up seven runs on 10 hits. Courtney Wray finished 2-for-3 for the Cyclones in the game.

Iowa State will be back in action Wednesday as it plays host to Drake at 2 p.m.
