AMES, Iowa?Sophomore midfielder Julie Chen's first-career goal with 1:26 remaining in the match gave the Iowa State soccer team a 2-1 win over Drake in the Cyclones' 2008 home debut Friday.
Chen capitalized on a rebound off a shot from freshman midfielder Laura Wooster to give Iowa State a 4-3 season mark and a win in first-year coach Wendy Dillinger's home opener.

“It is always good to win the first home game, especially against an in-state rival,” Dillinger said. “We played well, especially in the second half, and in front of a good turnout.”
The Cyclones played in front of an announced crowd of 892, over 200 fans more than last year's high of 641.
Iowa State got the start it was looking for when senior midfielder Leslie Hill scored her third goal of the season 9:55 into the affair after sophomore forward Amanda Nimtz created the opportunity after beating a number of Drake (1-5-1) defenders.
The Bulldogs responded just over 10 minutes later. Elizabeth Woerle notched her third goal of the season to draw the game level at one in the 21st minute.
Iowa State held a 20-14 shot advantage with a 5-2 edge on corners. Junior goalkeeper Ann Gleason had five stops for the Cyclones.
Dillinger was also pleased that the Cyclones did not have to go to their second consecutive overtime match.
“It was a relief to not have to go into overtime, considering we play Iowa on Sunday,” she said.
The Hawkeyes (4-4) come to Ames Sunday for a 1 p.m. game in the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series at the ISU Soccer Complex in Iowa State's next match. Iowa currently holds a slim 3-2 edge in the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series. The two squads battled to a scoreless draw last season in Iowa City. Iowa fell to Missouri 2-1 Friday in Columbia.
