AMES, Iowa?Three second-half goals by Iowa were too much for the Iowa State soccer team to overcome Sunday, as the Cyclones fell 3-2 in the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series showdown.
An announced crowd of 884 saw sophomore midfielder Jordan Bishop put the Cyclones (4-4) up, 1-0, 26:02 into the match with her first goal of the year. Junior midfielder Casey Bothwell recorded her first assist of the season on the score. Iowa State took its 1-0 lead into halftime.

Iowa (5-4) quickly leveled the match following the break, at 1-1 , 4:28 into the second half on a Stephanie Hyink tally. The Cyclones could not slow down the Hawkeyes' momentum as Alyssa Cosnek put Iowa up, 2-1, with her fifth goal of the campaign, 1:29 later. Sarah Langlas doubled the Hawkeyes' lead in the 63rd minute on her second goal of the season.
“(The second half) was very disappointing,” Iowa State coach Wendy Dillinger said. “We played well in the first half by passing and creating opportunities. So, it was disappointing to come out in the second half like we did. We were reacting to their play too much.”
The Cyclones made a late rally when freshman defender Mary Kate McLaughlin notched her first career goal with 3:36 remaining off a Bishop assist. However, Iowa State's attempts to level were thwarted, and the Hawkeyes received two points in the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series to take a 5-2 lead in the annual competition.
“It is tough to lose to an instate rival, especially at home,” Dillinger said. “We can't let them control the pitch.”
The Hawkeyes held a 15-8 shot advantage while leading in corner kicks 6-3. Junior goalkeeper Ann Gleason had three saves for ISU. Iowa goalies Kali Feiereisel and Emily Moran each made one save in 45 minutes of play a piece.
The Cyclones return to action Friday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. when they open Big 12 Conference action against Missouri (5-2) at the ISU Soccer Complex. The Tigers are coming off a 2-1 overtime victory over Iowa last Friday.
