ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Iowa State used a five-run third inning en route to an 8-1 win over Saint Louis Saturday at the Billiken Invitational. With the win, ISU improves to 17-12 overall.
Bianca Lopez had a career-high four hits for the Cyclones, who pounded out 16 hits as a team. Heidi Kidwell, Sydni Jones, Carrie Monroe and Dalyn Varela each added two hits for Iowa State.
In the third, Jones had a run-scoring single and Erica Miller added a two-run double to make it 3-0 Iowa State. Varela and Monroe also had run-scoring hits as the Cyclones opened up a 5-0 lead.
Courtney Wray delivered a sixth-inning single that scored Lopez, who tripled with one out.
ISU tacked on two more runs in the seventh as Kelsey Kidwell and Heidi Kidwell recorded back-to-back triples and Lopez singled to drive in the Cyclones' eighth run of the ballgame.
Saint Louis got a run back in the seventh, but that was it for the Billikens, who dropped to 10-9 this season.
Rachel Zabriskie (15-6) picked up her 15th win of the season and 48th of her career, one shy of the school record of 49, which is held by Lori Young (1984-85). Zabriskie struck out six and allowed just two hits in five innings of work.
Lauren Kennewell threw the final two innings, recording four strikeouts and giving up four hits and one run.
Emma Dekalb (0-2) suffered the loss for Saint Louis. Dekalb gave up eight runs on 16 hits.
