STILLWATER, Okla. - Junior Tori Torrescano allowed just two runs in throwing her sixth complete game of the season but two runs were all Oklahoma State (19-16, 3-6 Big 12) needed to defeat Iowa State (12-26, 1-9 Big 12) in a tight, 2-1, game on Friday at Cowgirl Stadium.
Iowa State managed only three hits off Cowgirls starter Kat Espinosa (11-8) who worked all seven innings, giving up one run, one walk and striking out six Cyclone batters. After surrendering three hits to Iowa State in the first two innings, Espinosa shut down the Cyclone offense, not giving up a hit over the next four frames.
In her six innings of work, Torrescano (7-18) gave up seven hits, two runs, walked two and struck out two.
Dalyn Varela drove in Iowa State's lone run of the day in the top of the second inning with a double to center, driving in pinch runner Evan Folks who entered after Sara Rice led off the inning with a single.
The Cowgirls took the 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI-double to left center from first baseman Julie Ward, driving in Shelby Davis and Tamara Brown who had each singled earlier in the inning.
On Saturday, the Cyclones and Cowgirls will take the field at 1 p.m. CST instead of 3 p.m. due to anticipated inclement weather in the Stillwater area.
