LUBBOCK, Texas – The Iowa State softball team (18-24, 1-8 Big 12) fell in its series finale at Texas Tech (21-26, 6-6 Big 12) by a score of 13-5 on Sunday at TTU's Rocky Johnson Field.

The Cyclones once again came out firing on offense to open the game. Senior speedster Brittany Gomez started things off by reaching on a TTU error, and promptly swiped her 21st base of the season to move over to second. Cathlin Bingham then knocked an RBI single up the middle, as Gomez raced home for the first run of the day. Bingham went 3-of-3 at the plate on the day, scoring two runs, to go with the RBI.
Aly Cappaert then came to the plate and put an exclamation point on the first frame with a two-run home run to center field. The bomb gave ISU a 3-0 advantage, and marked the senior's second home run of the weekend and her 10th of 2016. Cappaert became the second player in school history with double-digit home runs in three seasons, joining Tori Torrescano (2010-13).
The Red Raiders answered right back in the home half of the inning, scoring three runs in the frame on four hits, including an RBI bunt single courtesy of Brittany Warnecke. Texas Tech then took a 4-3 lead in the ensuing inning on an RBI double from Kiani Ramsey to score Jordan Bettiol.
Iowa State was able to wrestle back the lead in the top of the third inning, as Bingham singled to lead off and then came around to score later in the frame on a TTU throwing error, tying the game at 4-4. The Cyclones took the lead on an RBI single from Kirsten Caudle, scoring pinch runner Katie Dukes from third.
The Iowa State lead was short-lived however, as Texas Tech got a three-run home run from Susan Welborn in the following inning to go ahead 7-5. The Red Raiders were able to close the game out with six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 13-5 victory.

The Cyclones will be back in action Tuesday, when they will face Drake at 4 p.m. at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
