AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State wrestling team opens its Big 12 slate with a matchup with Wyoming on Saturday, Dec. 9. The Cyclones and Cowboys will take to the mat at Hilton Coliseum with the first match starting at 7 p.m.
At the intermission, Iowa State will recognize several former Drake University wrestling teams, as well as their athletes.

Iowa State vs. Wyoming History
-Iowa State leads the all-time series against the Cowboys, 14-2
-The two last met in November of last season in Laramie, Wyo. The Cowboys defeated the Cyclones, 19-15.
-The series inception dates back to 1941. On Jan. 16, 1941, Iowa State won the first meeting, 24-6.
UNI Open
In addition to the varsity lineup taking on Wyoming, Iowa State will send nine attached wrestlers to the UNI Open, as well as five unattached.
Gavin DeWitt, Gannon Gremmel, Brady Jennings, Nick Nolting, Dante Rodriguez, Markus Simmons, Joe Teague, Kristian Vasquez and Anthony Wesley will all wrestle attached, while Danny Bush, Marcus Coleman, Taylan Entriken, Ryan Leisure and Tanner Lundgren scrap as unattached wrestlers.

1. Iowa State opens its Big 12 Conference schedule with Wyoming. The Cowboys and Cyclones are set to take the mat in Hilton Coliseum on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.
2. The series between the ISU and Wyoming dates back to Jan. 6, 1941. The Cyclones defeated the Cowboys 24-6 in that first meeting. Since then, Iowa State holds a 14-2 advantage in the all-time series. Wyoming defeated Iowa State in Laramie last season, 19-15.
3. Iowa State has three wrestlers receiving national rankings this week. Ian Parker (20, NR, 17), Kanen Storr (17, 19, 19) and Jarrett Degen (18, NR, 16) are all ranked in this week's FloWrestling, Intermat and the OpenMat polls.
4. Last time out, the Cyclones wrestled at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational where Kanen Storr finished eighth place at 141-pounds.
5. Storr posted a 3-3 record in Vegas in a loaded 141-pound bracket that featured 12 wrestlers ranked in the top-20.
6. In their last dual contest, the Cyclones dropped a tough one to No. 22 Rider. In the match, Iowa State won five out of the 10 bouts, but the Broncs' three bonus-point victories were enough to push them past the Cyclones.
7. Kanen Storr, Jarrett Degen, Dane Pestano, Sam Colbray and Marcus Harrington all picked up decisions in the dual.
8. For Storr, Pestano and Harrington, they moved to 2-0 on the year with their wins. The trio has combined for 28 of Iowa State's 40 takedowns this year and are outscoring their opponents by a combined 66-24 in two contests thus far.
9. Degen, who didn't wrestle in the opener, and Colbray each picked up their first dual victories of the season.
10. Nine Cyclones earned top-6 finishes in the Linenwood Open Open Division, while redshirting freshmen Ryan Leisure and Marcus Coleman won titles at their respective weights in the freshman/sophomore division.
11. ISU saw three grapplers reach the finals in their bracket. Ian Parker (133), Jarrett Degen (149) and Dane Pestano (285) all reached the finals and finished runner-up.
12. Iowa State opened the dual season with a 21-16 loss to the Drexel Dragons. Iowa State won four out of the first six bouts, but dropped four straight matches to finish the dual.
13. In the dual against Drexel, Iowa State got wins from Ian Parker and Kanen Storr, who were making their Iowa State debuts. They also received wins from veterans Dane Pestano and Marcus Harrington.
14. Storr was electric in his first dual as a Cyclone. He was a point scoring machine, defeating Julian Flores by 22-7 technical fall. Parker won in a tight match over highly touted freshman Austin DeSanto. Parker won the match 7-5 behind nearly two minutes of riding time.
15. Pestano rejoined the Iowa State lineup at 184 pounds. He was aggressive and took down Owen Brooks by 14-6 major decision. Harrington made his debut at heavyweight, dispatching Sean O'Malley by 12-2 major decision.
16. The Cyclones opened the season with the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open. Ian Parker, Gavin DeWitt and Chase Straw all won individual titles, while Marcus Harrington finished runner-up.
17. The Iowa State roster is as youthful as any in the country. The Cyclones currently have 30 wrestlers who are freshmen or sophomores and only seven who are juniors or seniors.
18. To go along with the youth, the roster also features many new faces. Of the 36 athletes, only 21 are returners from 2016-17. Dresser and company have added 16 new wrestlers for 2017-18.
