AUSTIN, Texas - The Iowa State soccer team (2-7-1) was defeated 1-0 by No. 17 Texas (9-0) on Friday night at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Cyclones battled the nation's final unbeaten/untied team to a first half draw, but were unable to find an equalizer to Haley Berg's 50th minute goal.

Turning Point of the Match
Berg, a freshman midfielder, made the play of the game, lifting the Longhorns past Iowa State. In a back-and-forth affair, UT broke through on an unassisted Berg goal early in the second half. The freshman worked her way from left to right through the box and placed the ball with a perfect strike into the upper left corner. Iowa State continued to press, creating some great opportunities late in the match, but were unable to convert.

Cyclone Game Ball Goes to...
Brooke Tasker. The Iowa State junior fired a game-high four shots, including one on goal, and helped create a number of chances for the Cyclones. The midfielder stayed aggressive to the end, making a late run before being taken out in the box. It appeared Tasker would earn penalty kick in the game's final minute, but no call was made.

Coach Speak
"I thought we played well," head coach Tony Minatta said. "We were disciplined and organized defensively. We really didn't give them very good chances throughout the game and we had some really great opportunities on the counter. We kept fighting and kept working after giving up the goal early in the second half. Even in the final seconds, we had chances. It just shows the character and toughness of this team. With all the adversity they've faced, they're still out there fighting and competing against their second ranked opponent in a week.
