Ames, Iowa - The Iowa State soccer team (2-9-1, 0-3 Big 12) was defeated 2-1 by Kansas (6-5-2, 1-1-1 Big 12) on Friday night at the Cyclone Sports Complex. The Cyclones jumped out to a 1-0 lead at halftime behind a goal in 32nd minute by junior Klasey Medelberg, but were unable to fend of the Jayhawks in the second half.
Kansas knotted the game on an unassisted goal by Katie McClure in the 65th minute. The Jayhawks then surged ahead with another unassisted score, this one off the foot of Isabella Cavalcante in 84th minute.

Turning Point of the Match
Kansas had found the equalizer on McClure's goal, but the match turned fully in KU's favor when they took the lead in the 84th minute. The goal came on the heels of multiple Cyclone chances at the other end of the field, but Cavalcante popped a floating ball up and it found a way into the net over ISU keeper Antonia Reyes and defender Brianna Johnson.

Cyclone Game Ball Goes to...
Klasey Medelberg. The junior forward scored her team-high third goal of the season on Friday night in thrilling fashion. Medelberg received a pass at the top of the box from defender Riley Behan, and spun with a touch to left. She delivered a beautiful strike past the goalkeeper's outstretched arms into the back of the net, giving Iowa State an early lead.

Coach Speak
"In the first half, we were getting into the attack," said head coach Tony Minatta. "We came out with intensity, defended hard. Second half, I wouldn't say we were flat, but we didn't match their intensity, and it caught us. You can't let a team like Kansas move they ball like they were. I think that rattled us a little."
