CYCLONE NOTEBOOK
1. The Iowa State Soccer team (3-13-2, 1-6-1 Big 12) is set to host Kansas State (4-11-2, 0-8-0 Big 12) for senior night on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Cyclone Sports Complex. Iowa State's postseason hopes hang in the balance with one game remaining in the regular season. The Cyclones can secure a bid to the 2018 Big 12 Soccer Championship with a win on Thursday over K-State and a TCU win over Oklahoma State.
2. Following an emotional 2-0 win over Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Sunday, the Cyclones will look to keep the momentum rolling in their favor in the regular season finale. Iowa State entered OSU's Neal Patterson Stadium in a must-win situation, as a tie or loss would have eliminated them from postseason contention. The Cyclones pulled through for their first conference win of the season in dominant fashion.
3. The Cyclones enter Thursday's game as a battle-tested unit, having played the fourth-toughest schedule in the nation to this point, per the NCAA.
4. Shea Sullivan's game-winning goal vs. Oklahoma State in the 27th minute provided perhaps the highlight of the season thus far for the Cyclones. Following an ISU corner that was cleared out of the box, Sullivan collected the carom, took a touch and sent a rocket from 35 yards out into the upper left-hand corner of the net for the first goal of her career.
5. Kassi Ginther continued to be a bright spot for the Cyclones on their road trip through Oklahoma. The sophomore scored two goals on the weekend, including a penalty kick (55') at Oklahoma State for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
6. Ginther is T-No. 3 in the Big 12 for goals scored in conference play with four, the most among league underclassmen. Ginther is ISU's co-leader with nine points this season.
7. Sophomore goalkeeper Dayja Schwichtenberg notched her third shutout of the season on Sunday at Oklahoma State. Schwichtenberg has spent all 1,695 available minutes between the posts this season for Iowa State and is the Big 12's leader in saves (99) and saves per game (5.5).
8. Due to injuries, as well as the emergence of talented underclassmen, head coach Tony Minatta trotted out his youngest starting lineups of the season against TCU & Kansas. The Cyclone starting XI included six sophomores and a freshman in both matches.
9. Ten of Iowa State's 17 goals have been scored by underclassmen, while 55 percent of Iowa State's minutes this year have been played by the freshman and sophomore contingent.
10. Midfielder Emily Steil is enjoying the best year of her career as a senior. The native of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., assisted on both of Iowa State's goals at TCU, making it the second multi-assist match of her career. Her 11 career assists are the most by an active Cyclone since 2013 (Emily Goldstein - 14), and currently place her at T-No. 7 on Iowa State's all-time list.
11. Daniel and Enga have been a tremendous duo on the back line so far this season for the Cyclones. Enga leads all field players, having logged all 1,695 available minutes, trailed just slightly by Daniel with 1,671 minutes played. The duo has drawn rave reviews from Minatta and staff for anchoring the Iowa State defensive effort.
