AMES, Iowa. – Iowa State's redshirt freshman Jarrett Degen is set for the 2018 NCAA Championships this weekend. Degen qualified for the national tournament with a third-place finish at 149 pounds at the Big 12 Championship.
Heavyweight Marcus Harrington is also making the trip as the first alternate in the heavyweight bracket.
The NCAA Championships are set to begin at 11 a.m. CT on Thursday morning from Cleveland, Ohio. First round action from the Quicken Loans Arena will be broadcast on ESPNU and can be streamed live through Watch ESPN or ESPN3.

Jarrett Degen Notes
-Iowa State's Jarrett Degen has qualified for the 2018 NCAA Championships at 149 pounds. Marcus Harrington has been selected as the first alternate at heavyweight.
-The NCAA Championships are headed to Cleveland this year and will take place at the Quicken Loans Arena. The national tournament is set to run from March 15-17.
-In the first round on Thursday morning, Degen will be pitted against Nebraska's No. 13 Colton McCrystal.
-Degen enters the tournament with a 20-9 record on the year. He also went 10-5 in 15 dual competitions this season.
-He posted an 11-6 record against foes from the Big 12. 10 out of his 20 victories were by bonus-point decision, which included three falls, five technical falls and two major decisions.
-He was tied for second on the team in dual wins (10), second on the team in takedowns (37) and second on the team in total near-fall points (30).
-To qualify for the NCAA Championships, Degen earned an automatic berth at the Big 12 Championship. There, Degen took third place behind a 3-1 record in Tulsa.
-Degen is Iowa State's first NCAA qualifier at 149 pounds since Gabe Moreno in 2015. In total, he becomes Iowa State's 585th NCAA qualifier and 280th individual to do so.
- The Belgrade, Mont., native finished the year ranked No. 19 in the Coaches' Rankings and No. 16 in RPI.
