AMES, Iowa – The No. 16 Iowa State wrestling team (4-3, 1-0 Big 12) is set for a pair of Big 12 contests this weekend. ISU opens the weekend in Brookings, S.D., taking on South Dakota State on Friday night at 7 p.m. They'll then close out the weekend by hosting North Dakota State in Hilton Coliseum on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Soles for Souls
Fans are encourage to bring new and gently used shoes to donate to Soles4Souls a nonprofit organization that distributes shoes across the world for those in need. Over the past three academic years, student-athletes have collected a combined 2,900 pairs of shoes and have participated in International service trips to distribute shoes to people in need.
Cyclone Notebook
-No. 16 Iowa State is set for a pair of conference duals this weekend. The Cyclones will travel to Brookings, S.D., on Friday night to take on South Dakota State followed by a home contest against North Dakota State on Sunday.
-The Cyclones are ranked No. 16 in the NWCA National Coaches Poll this week. ISU is also ranked No. 13, 8 and 14 in the FloWrestling, Intermat and TrackWrestling team rankings.
-Alex Mackall (10, 13, 13), Todd Small (17, 15, 13), Ian Parker (7, 5, 8), Jarrett Degen (7, 7, 7), David Carr (3, 3, 3), Chase Straw (NR, NR, 33), Sam Colbray (11, 11, 14), Marcus Coleman (15, NR, 29) and Gannon Gremmel (12, 14, 14) all are ranked in the FloWrestling, Intermat and Trackwrestling polls this week.
-Iowa State's 10 individually ranked wrestlers are the most of any Big 12 team.
-ISU is coming off a 2-2 performance on a trip out West. The Cyclones defeated Utah Valley 45-0, pinning five Wolverines in the dual. They then traveled to Phoenix, Ariz. to compete in the Duals on the Diamond, where they defeated Harvard 34-6, but fell to Campbell (22-14) and No. 7 Arizona State (21-12).
-The Duals on the Diamond was a unique event, wrestled at Chase Field. It was the first collegiate wrestling event to be held at a Major League Baseball stadium.
-Last weekend, head coach Kevin Dresser switched up his lineup, bumping Sam Colbray down to 174 and Marcus Coleman up to 184. The Cyclones will look to keep this lineup for the remainder of 2019-20.
-Iowa State sent a troupe of grapplers to the Southern Scuffle. Gannon Gremmel emerged as the heavyweight champion of the tournament, posting a 5-0 record while outscoring his opponents 36-13.
-Prior to the holiday break, ISU defeated Chattanooga at home, 26-7. The Cyclones won eight out of the 10 bouts on the night, including a 21-6 technical-fall victory for David Carr.
-ISU finished sixth at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, the second-best finish at the event in program history. In total, six Iowa State wrestlers reached the podium in Vegas.
-Alex Mackall (5th), Todd Small (4th), Ian Parker (4th), Jarrett Degen (6th), David Carr (3rd) and Gannon Gremmel (4th) made up the podium Cyclones at the CKLV.
-Through seven duals, Ian Parker and David Carr both own perfect records. Carr leads the team in takedowns (27), back points (26) and total points scored (90).
-The attendance for the Iowa State-Iowa Dual (11,238) was the most in the last 20 years and the 10th-largest in Hilton Coliseum history.
-David Carr defeated then-ranked No. 2 Kaleb Young by 6-1 decision in the Iowa dual. Carr was named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for his win over the Hawkeye.
-The Cyclone wrestling roster continues to mature. After only returning one NCAA Qualifier for the 2018-19 season, Iowa State will return eight NCAA Qualifiers (Mackall, Gomez, Parker, Degen, Straw, Coleman, Colbray and Gremmel) and one All-American (Degen).
-Iowa State also returns 88% of its dual wins, 90% of its dual points scored and 90% of its total team wins from the 2018-19 squad.
-Beyond that, Iowa State has 66% of its dual starts over the past two seasons on the roster in 2019-20.
Dresser improved his all-time dual wins to 182 against Harvard. He currently ranks as the No. 17 winningest active coach in Division I wrestling.
