MANHATTAN, Kan. – Anna Lindgren scored her second goal of the season in the 53rd minute, as Iowa State beat Kansas State 1-0 in the Big 12 soccer regular season finale. The victory locked up the final spot in the Big 12 Championship for the Cyclones.
Iowa State improved to 5-11 overall and 2-6 in the Big 12, while Kansas State ended the season 6-10-2 overall and 1-6-2 in league play. It was the fifth shutout of the season for the Cyclones, the most since the 2016 season. The Cyclones will face top-seeded, and eighth-ranked, TCU on Sunday in the Big 12 Championship Quarterfinals in Round Rock, Texas. Kickoff is set for 11:30 a.m. and will be available on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. The Horned Frogs defeated the Cyclones 3-0 on Oct. 17 in Ames. Sunday will mark the 12th tournament appearance for the Cyclones.
"I think the whole game we dominated," Iowa State head coach Matt Fannon said. "It was really difficult conditions all night for both teams. We were able to take care of those difficult situations in the first half and then change our game in the second when it was so different."
After a scoreless first half that saw the Cyclones battling 20-25 mph winds in their face, Iowa State capitalized early in the second half with the lone goal of the match. From deep in the corner, Brooke Miller found Kenady Adams, who sent a cross into the box, where Lindgren pushed it past the goalkeeper for the Cyclone goal in the 53rd minute. It was the second goal of the season for Lindgren, while Miller added her team-leading third assist of the year.It was the second assist of the year for Adams and the fourth of her career.
Mira Emma led the Cyclones with four shots, while Claudia Najera had three. Emma put three shots on goal, while Najera had two. Lindgren, Adams, Taylor Bee and Magdalena Keck each had a shot on goal as well. Rachel Vander Hart picked up her first collegiate victory in the net, as she improved to 1-1 on the year with a career-high five saves.
McKenna Schultz appeared in her 81st career match for the Cyclones, setting a new school record. Emma made her 40th career start, while Adams started her 30th career match.
Kansas State had a 13-12 advantage in shots, while Iowa State had a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal.
