AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State softball team heads to Boca Raton, Fla. this weekend for the FAU Strikeout Cancer Tournament. Iowa State will face FAU and Ole Miss twice each at the tournament, as well as a game each vs. Missouri. Iowa State is looking to build on its first 5-0 start since 2016.

KEY STORYLINES
- Iowa State's 5-0 opening weekend was the first time the program had gone undefeated at a tournament since 2017 (Tennessee State Tournament).
- The Cyclones are two wins shy of matching the best start in program history (2009).
- Ellie Spelhaug was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after going 3-0 at the UNI Dome Tournament. She is the first Cyclone to win the honor since 2018.
- Spelhaug had 12 strikeouts in 14.0 innings of work and a 1.50 ERA. She racked up a career high 6 K's in a complete game vs. Drake.
- Senior Skyler Ramos went 9-of-13 with a home run and three doubles at the UNI Dome Tournament. She entered the weekend with two career doubles and no home runs.
- Skyler Ramos and Mikayla Ramos each had nine base hits at the UNI Dome Tournament to rank T-No. 4 nationally in hits on the season. Five of the nation's top 10 hits leaders come from the Big 12.
- Sami Williams is the Big 12's all-time leader in career doubles with 66. She is also the NCAA's DI active leader, and is 5 doubles away from joining the NCAA's all-time top-10 in the category.
- The Cyclones' team speed was on display in a 10-1 Valentine's Day win over Drake. Iowa State tied a school record with seven stolen bases. ISU ranks No. 2 nationally with 16 stolen bases on the season.
- Iowa State had the youngest pitching staff in the nation in 2020, and assistant coach Kate Sinnott did a masterful job with her bullpen. All 158.1 innings of work in the circle last season were handled by the freshman trio of Karlie Charles, Janessa Jasso and Ellie Spelhaug.
- Pitcher Shannon Mortimer was outstanding in 4.2 innings of relief work vs. Omaha. Making her first appearance in the circle since May 10, 2019, Mortimer tied a career high with six strikeouts. The junior pitcher allowed just one hit to the Mavs in the win.
