No. 23 Iowa State Bound For UT Arlington Invitational

AMES, Iowa - The No. 23 Iowa State softball team will travel to Arlington, Texas this weekend for the UT Arlington Boerner Invitational. The Cyclones open the weekend on Friday at 4:30 p.m. CT vs. North Texas. Iowa State will also face UT Arlington, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, Missouri State and Wichita State at the tournament.

KEY STORYLINES
- Jamie Pinkerton's Cyclone squad made history on Feb. 23 as the first Iowa State team to ever appear in the USA Today / NFCA DI Coaches' poll at No. 25. The Cyclones are up to No. 23 this week.
- The Cyclones went 4-1 at the GCU Purple Classic, collecting a pair of wins vs. GCU and Portland State.
- No. 23 Iowa State enters this weekend 13-2 on the season, tied for the best 15-game start in program history. Iowa State has made it to 13-2 three times before (1975, 1985, 2009).
 - Senior Sami Williams was named the National Player of the Week by the NFCA on March 2. She is the first player in program history to receive the honor.
- Iowa State ranks T-No. 5 nationally with 28 doubles on the year.
- The Cyclones boast the nation's leader in doubles this season in Mikayla Ramos (8) as well as the NCAA DI active leader in career doubles in senior Sami Williams (67).
- Williams is the first Cyclone ever to be named Big 12 Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks.
- Williams is closing in on yet another school record. The senior is just 3 RBI away from breaking Erica Miller's (2010-13) record of 149. Williams tied her career high with 5 RBI on Feb. 26 vs. Portland State.
- Williams ranks No. 2 nationally with nine home runs so far this season after hitting five at the GCU Purple Classic. She trails only fellow Big 12 standout Jocelyn Alo of Oklahoma (10).
- The Cyclones have won three of their last four games vs. top-25 opponents, including a pair of wins vs. top-10 teams, dating back to 2019. They'll have a chance to add to that total when they face unbeaten No. 13 ASU on Saturday.
- Karlie Charles has been outstanding of late in the circle. The sophmore is 6-1 with a team-low 1.72 ERA while leading Iowa State in strikeouts (29) and innings pitched (44.2). Charles rang up a career-high 8 strikeouts in just 3.2 innings of relief work vs. Portland State on Feb. 26.
