Iowa State Falls To No. 11 OSU In Extra Innings

STILLWATER, Okla. – Iowa State (23-11, 0-6 Big 12) fell 2-1 in an extra-inning heartbreaker to No. 11 Oklahoma State (29-5, 5-1 Big 12) on Saturday at Cowgirl Stadium.

Starting pitcher Ellie Spelhaug had a tremendous outing in the circle for the Cyclones. The sophomore went a career-high 8.0 innings while allowing two runs on just five hits, to go with four strikeouts.

The Cowgirls struck first, plating the first run of the day on a solo home run by Alysen Febrey in the bottom of the first inning.

Spelhaug and the Cyclone defense were terrific from that point forward, holding an explosive Cowgirl attack scoreless over the next six innings. Oklahoma State went down in order in three of the next four innings.

Senior left fielder Skyler Ramos gave the Iowa State offense a lift for the second day in a row. Ramos, who entered the series with one career home run, hit her second in as many days in the top of the fifth. The two-out, solo bomb to center field knotted the game at 1-1.

Senior standout Sami Williams nearly won the game for the Cyclones in the top of the seventh, hitting a deep fly ball to center field with two runners on base and two outs. However, OSU center fielder Chyenne Factor robbed what would have been a three-run home run, sending the game to extra innings.

Hayley Busby collected a RBI base hit down the right field line, scoring Kiley Naomi to secure the OSU win in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Cyclones will travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to take on UNI on Wednesday at Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. CT.
