Academic Services Names September Student-Athletes of the Month

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State Athletics Academic Services named four as the September Student-Athlete of the Month. The student-athletes are Oby Kajuru (tennis), Chie Kezuka (tennis), Tyler Miller (football) and Nate Vance (men's golf).
Oby Kajuru, Sophomore
Hometown: Tokyo, Japan
Major: Open Option
Kajuru most recently became an ITA Central Region Doubles Champion to begin her sophomore campaign. Kajuru went 14-7 in singles action for one of the best freshman seasons in school history and 17-3 in doubles for All-Big 12 Second-Team honors in both singles and doubles. Kajuru was part of the first doubles team in program history to earn Doubles Big 12 Champions at the No. 3 spot.
Chie Kezuka, Senior
Hometown: Fujisawa, Japan
Major: Advertising
Kezuka is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team member. The senior joined Kajuru in becoming an ITA Central Region Doubles Champion this month. As a junior, Kezuka finalized a record of 47-9 while becoming the first Cyclone all time to be named a Big 12 Individual No. 5 Singles Champion.
Tyler Miller, Redshirt Sophomore
Hometown: Scranton, Iowa
Major: Agriculture Studies
Miller has earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors. In the 2021 football season, Miller primarily played on special teams and earned his first career start in the Cheez-It Bowl vs. Clemson. Miller earned first-team all-state and all-district honors two times in high school.
Nate Vance, Redshirt Senior
Hometown: Marshalltown, Iowa
Major: Finance
Vance has earned Second-Team Academic All-Big 12 honors. Last season, Vance solidified a 73.40 stroke average. He also was second on the team in birdies with 85. In the 2020-21 season, Vance put up the third-best stroke average on the team with 74.95.
