Academics Announces Student-Athletes of the Month

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State Athletics Academic Services has named the October Student-Athletes of the month. The four recipients are Kaylyn Hall (Track and Field), Madelynn Hill (Cross Country/Track and Field), Anthony Johnson (Football) and Thai Thompson (Track and Field).
Kaylyn Hall, Senior
Hometown: London, Ontario
Major: Design
Hall has earned Academic All-Big 12 Second Team honors. The hurdler ranks at No. 2 on the outdoor 100-meter hurdles ISU all-time performance list. In indoor events, Hall sits inside the top 10 in the 60-meter high hurdles, 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. The senior is also an NCAA West Preliminaries qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles and two-time qualifier in the 100-meter hurdles.
Madelynn Hill, Senior
Hometown: Liberty, Mo.
Major: Linguistics
Hill is a four-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team member through track and field and cross country. This cross country season, Hill earned both All-Big 12 and All-Midwest Region honors. Hill went on to notch her spot in the NCAA Championships, placing 120th. In track and field, Hill ranks sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on the Iowa State all-time outdoor performance list.
Anthony Johnson Jr., Senior
Hometown: St. Petersburg, Fla.
Major: Communication Studies
Johnson Jr. is an Academic All-Big 12 First Team member and two-time Academic All-Big 12 Second Team honoree. The defensive back holds the record for the most career starts in school history, becoming the first to start more than 50. The senior has 56 tackles this season and has totaled 239 on his career. Johnson Jr. earned Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors three times.
Thai Thompson, Senior
Hometown: Johnston, Iowa
Major: Liberal Studies
Thompson joined the Cyclones last season and finished ninth in the decathlon at the Big 12 Championships where he set outdoor personal bests in seven of 10 events. In indoor season, Thompson set a career-best heptathlon score while placing sixth at the Big 12 Championships.
