Iowa State Earns Road Win Against Cal State Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. – Iowa State (15-8, 0-0 Big 12) overpowered Cal State Fullerton (15-11, 0-0 BW) to the tune of a 6-2 victory Saturday night in Fullerton, Calif.
Five Cyclones logge multi-hit games as Iowa State finished with 11 knocks in the contest. Kali Gose, Kaylee Pond and Kasey Simpson all registered two hits and an RBI in the win. Natalie Wellet came off the bench to deliver two hits and a run while Mikayla Ramos turned in her eighth multi-hit game of the season.
Carli Spelhaug homered for the fourth time this season, a three-run no-doubter, in the sixth inning to break the game open.
Karlie Charles (5-1) was given the starting nod in the circle and struck out three Titans in four innings. Ellie Spelhaug entered in relief at the start of the fifth and allowed no runs and only two hits across three innings. It marked Ellie's sixth-career save, moving her into a tie for the third-most in program history.
The Cyclones got on the board first when Carli Spelhaug reached via walk and worked her way around to third base before Pond brought her home with a sac-fly. Cal State Fullerton responded with a two-run home run to lead, 2-1, after the opening frame.
The Titans loaded the bases in the second but a catch from Carli Spelhaug in left field ended the threat. A great defensive play from Simpson ended another bases-loaded threat from Fullerton in the third.
Gose delivered the tying run on a line-drive, RBI single to left field in the fourth inning to pull ISU even at 2-2. Simpson gave the Cyclones a 3-2 lead in the next frame with an RBI double to left field to score Allen.
The Cyclones opened the sixth inning with back-to-back singles before Carli Spelhaug's three-run blast to left gave Iowa State some breathing room, 6-2.
