Leading the Cyclones
With the Big 12 Championship picture becoming clearer, Iowa State looks to secure critical points as it heads down the home stretch of the Big 12 calendar. The Cyclones enter Austin after falling at Baylor and hope to build on last year's 1-1 tie against the Longhorns in Ames.
Senior forward Salomé Prat notched her third career brace in the team's last outing, catapulting herself into the lead for most goals scored on the team with five.
In the midfield, Mira Emma leads all Cyclones in points (11) and assists (3), making her the proverbial straw that stirs the drink. The fifth-year senior captain notched her second career brace in the team's outing against Portland State earlier this season.
Goalkeeper Avery Gillahan has tallied 39 saves and has faced over 170 shots through 14 contests. Gillahan recorded her second career shutout against Portland State earlier this season and has been a constant between the sticks.
Scouting Texas
After opening conference play 1-2-1, the Longhorns have rattled off two wins in a row, downing UCF in their last contest who was previously unbeaten in the Big 12.
The Texas attack is led by arguably the best 1-2 punch in all college soccer, as Lexi Missimo owns 16 goals and 16 assists for a nation-best 48 points. Missimo's 16 goals are the second most in the country and her 16 assists leads the nation.
The other part of the Longhorn scoring tandem is Trinity Byars. Byars owns 13 goals and nine assists and the two make up the highest scoring tandem in the country. Texas and Mercer are the only two schools in the country to have two players with double digit goals scored.
In the net, Mia Justus holds it down for the Longhorns. A two-time Big 12 goalkeeper of the week this season, Justus has started all 14 matches for UT. She owns a .91 GAA and has tallied 46 saves to date, recording seven shutouts.
