Cyclones Fall in Wooo Pig Classic Finale

FAYETEVILLE, Ark. – Mikayla Ramos smashed her 30th career home run in an Iowa State uniform, but Iowa State (7-12, 0-0 Big 12) dropped its final contest of the Wooo Pig Classic against Texas A&M–Corpus Christi on Sunday, 6-1.
Ramos became just the fifth Cyclone in school history to eclipse 30 career home runs with her solo shot to left field in the fourth inning. She needs four more homers to pass Erica Miller for the fourth-most home runs in school history.
How it Happened
The Cyclones scattered four hits and plated one run in the contest. Islander starting pitcher Primrose Aholelei went the distance and struck out five.
Texas A&M–CC plated five runs on four hits in the second inning to jump out to an early 5-0 lead. A solo homer in the third increased the Islanders' tally to six, which would be their final score.
Three Cyclone pitchers combined to strike out nine Islander batters in the game. Senior pitcher Ellie Spelhaug started the game in the circle for the Cyclones, giving up five runs (two earned runs) over 1.1 innings. Freshman Jaiden Ralston gave up one run while striking out five over 3.2 innings in relief, and Saya Swain struck out two in her lone inning of work.
Spelhaug (1-3) was pegged with the loss for Iowa State while Aholelei (7-6) picked up the win for the Islanders.
Up Next
The Cyclones will have four days off before travelling to Hawaii for the Rainbow Wahine Classic on Friday. They will play five games over the course of three days, squaring off against Fordham, Niagara and Hawaii.
