LUBBOCK, Texas – Milaysia Ochoa mashed two home runs and four extra-base hits, but the Iowa State Cyclones (12-19, 1-5 Big 12) dropped the rubber match with the Texas Tech Red Raiders (28-12, 2-4 Big 12) on Sunday 7-5.
Ochoa becomes just the second Cyclone this season to tally a multi-homer game, joining Carli Spelhaug who accomplished the feat on March 10 against Niagara. Ochoa would finish the contest with two homers, two doubles and three runs scored.
How it Happened
The Cyclones struck for three runs in the top of the first inning to jump out to an early lead in the contest. Mikayla Ramos blasted her fourth home run of the season and 32nd of her career in the first inning. She now sits one behind Erica Miller for the fourth-most in ISU history.
Texas Tech would strike back in the bottom of the first with a homer by Kailey Wyckoff to make the score 3-1 after one. In the second, the Red Raider offense would plate five runs on three hits to take the lead for good.
The trio of Ochoa, Ramos and Angelina Allen would combine for eight hits, four RBIs and three home runs, but the Cyclone lineup couldn't get the timely hits when they needed them. They would finish just 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position compared to Texas Tech's 4-for-10 showing.
Saya Swain (4-6) got the start in the circle for Iowa State and was unable to make it out the second inning. She allowed five runs on two hits, while walking three and striking out two.
Freshman Jaiden Ralston threw four solid innings of relief in this game, giving up just one run on three hits and striking out three.
Kendall Fritz (8-3), Friday's starter for Texas Tech, pitched her second complete game of the series. She allowed five runs on 11 hits and struck out four.
