AMES, Iowa – The Cyclones dropped game two of their weekend series with the No. 18 Baylor Bears on Saturday 15-3.Â
Despite scoring in three of the five innings in Saturday's contest, the Cyclones (20-28, 3-11 Big 12) were unable to keep pace with the Bears (36-14, 5-9 Big 12) in the second matchup of the weekend. The Bears would hang multiple crooked number innings on Iowa State to propel them to victory.Â
How it Happened
The Cyclones would scatter five hits in Game Two, including Sarah Tyree's third homer of the season in the third inning, but couldn't manage to string multiple hits together to keep up with Baylor on Saturday.Â
Baylor would jump out to an early 2-0 lead for the second consecutive day, using three hits and a walk to jump out ahead after a half inning. Then in the second, Baylor would use two more hits and a walk to score two more.Â
In the second inning, the Cyclones were able to manufacture their first run of the game and cut the lead to three after two complete innings. A miscue by the Baylor defense netted the Cyclones their first opportunity to bat with a runner in scoring position, and Alesia Ranches would deliver a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Carli Spelhaug for ISU's first run.Â
After a seven-pitch at-bat to lead off the fourth inning, Sarah Tyree's third home run of the season would sneak over the right field wall to cut the lead in half. Tyree reached base both times in this contest.Â
The fifth inning would see the Cyclones score their third run of the game thanks to a two-out RBI double by Kasey Simpson, marking her fourth double and 13th RBI of the season.Â
But the Bears would use an eight-run fourth inning and a three-run fifth inning to break this game open and seal their 36th victory of the season.Â
