Cyclones Fall in Game Two

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (12-21, 1-7 Big 12) fell in its second matchup with No. 9 Texas (32-8-1, 5-3 Big 12) on Friday 8-1.
How it Happened
The Cyclone offense was stymied by Longhorn starting pitcher Estelle Czech in this contest. Mikayla Ramos and Carli Spelhaug picked up the only two hits in the contest. Ramos has now recorded at least one hit in five consecutive games.
Texas struck for two runs in the top of the first inning, one thanks to an RBI double off the bat of Vivian Martinez, who now has four hits and three RBI through the first two games in the series.
The lone run of the game for the Cyclones came in the second inning thanks to a defensive miscue by the Longhorn third baseman. Kasey Simpson would race home to beat the throw from the outfield.
Texas would plate two in the third, two in the sixth and two in the seventh to reach its final tally of eight.
Karlie Charles (3-2) started game two in the circle for Iowa State and tossed 2.1 innings while allowing four runs (one earned run) and striking out two.
Jaiden Ralston entered for Charles, tossing 2.2 strong innings and allowing one hit and one run after facing nine batters. Ralston walked one batter and struck out another as she faced the potent Texas lineup.
Longhorn starting pitcher Estelle Czech (8-3) tallied her fifth complete game of the season, allowing one run and striking out five.Â
