No. 46 Iowa State Blanks South Dakota, 7-0

AMES, Iowa – No. 46 Iowa State soundly defeated South Dakota, 7-0, Sunday afternoon at the Iowa State Tennis Facility. The victory improves the Cyclones to 5-2 on the season while the Coyotes fall to 3-5.

ISU has now won three of its last four matches.

Iowa State opened the match by taking the doubles point from USD, making the Cyclones 5-0 on the year when they win in doubles action.

The ISU duo of Mari Paz Alberto Vilar and Julia Camblor first took down the Coyote pair of Bea Havlickova and Grace Chadick, 6-2, at the No. 2 spot. Valeska San Martin Ramirez and Suzanie Pretorius clinched the doubles point at the No. 3 spot with a 6-3 win over Selena Bird and Anna Medvyedyeva.

In singles action, No. 81 Anna Supapitch Kuearum improved to 4-1 in duals this season with a commanding victory over Havlickova, 6-0, 6-2, in the No. 1 spot. Camblor followed closely behind with a, 6-2, 6-1, win over Amanda de Oliveira at the No. 2 spot to put the Cyclones in the driver's seat in the dual, 3-0.

Valeska San Martin Ramirez delivered her second match-clinching win of the season with a victory over Katarina Curcic at the No. 6 spot. After a tight first set which saw San Martin win, 7-6, the Cyclone shut things down with a 6-1 score in the second.

Singles matches were played to completion after the dual result was decided. ISU also saw singles victories from Alberto Vilar, Pretorius and Gabriela Felix.

It's a quick turnaround for the Cyclones as Iowa State is back in action at Colorado State Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. (CT).
