AMES, Iowa – As part of a stretch that will feature six games in seven days, Iowa State (25-19, 11-7 Big 12) got off to a solid start, as it downed South Dakota State (24-22, 9-3 Summit) twice on Monday at the Cyclone Sports Complex as part of a rescheduled doubleheader.
The Cyclones took game one over the Jackrabbits 5-3, scoring all their runs in the fourth and sixth frame. Jessie Clemons had a monster outing, recording a career0best four RBI on two hits – a homer and a triple. Â
Iowa State looked to be in control of game number two, leading 6-3 through five full frames before the Jackrabbits knotted things up at six in the sixth. ISU would go on to walk things off in the seventh, as Karlee Ford hit a bases-loaded sac fly to center to plate the winning run.
Iowa State 5, South Dakota State 3
Iowa State found itself in a quick 2-0 deficit after a second inning long ball from SDSU but would rattle off five unanswered runs to pull away with a 5-3 victory in Monday's game one.
Clemons turned in a whale of a performance to start the day, totaling seven bases on a homer and her first career triple to notch a personal nest four RBI. Fellow freshman Sereniti Trice joined her with two hits, while six others collected a knock. Tatum Johnson went 1-1 with a single and drew a pair of walks.
Jaiden Ralston started game one, allowing two runs across three innings and striking out a pair. Lauren Schurman (11-9) would relieve Ralston and earn herself the win, dealing four innings of work and allowing just one run. Schurman had four strikeouts, including three in the final frame.
