AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (17-17, 7-5 Big 12) was unable to secure its third consecutive conference series win on Saturday, as it fell to BYU (23-10, 7-5 Big 12) in the series finale, 13-0 in five innings.
The Cougars plated three in the first frame, but an explosive nine-run fifth inning was the difference on the day as BYU ran away with a 13-run win.
ISU was limited to just two hits on the day, as Ashley Minor and Reagan Bartholomew were the only ones to collect base knocks for the Cyclones. Karlee Ford, Angelina Allen and Paige Zender all drew walks on the day, while Tatum Johnson was hit by a pitch and Jessie Clemons reached on an error.
Four Cyclones saw the circle on the day, with starter Abby Huhn (3-3) taking the loss. Jaiden Ralston threw the majority of the game, tossing four frames and allowing three runs on five hits. Sami Potvin and Lauren Schurman also saw time for the Cyclones.
Four Cougars notched multiple hits, with catcher Lindy Milkowski leading the way with a game-high of three. Milkowski, along with freshman phenom Ilove'a Brittingham, had two homers on the day as the two made up for all four BYU home runs. Brittinghman had a game-best five RBI – all via the long ball.
Kate Dahle would go the distance for the Cougs, limiting the Cyclones to just a pair of hits. Dahle would walk three but also struck out three as she earned a complete game shutout.
How it Happened
The Cougars wasted little time on Saturday's finale getting the scoring started. A one-out walk was immediately driven in by a Brittingham homer to make it 2-0. A double from Milkowski was then followed by a Kamoku single, pushing the BYU advantage to three through one.
BYU added a fourth run in the third, belting its second homer of the game, this one courtesy of Milkowski, to make it 4-0.
The Cyclones were held in check at the plate, while BYU exploded in the fifth, scoring nine more runs to push the lead to 13 before going on to win in five innings.
