Cyclones Power Past Saint Louis, 7-2

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Heidi Kidwell and Bianca Lopez combined to go 4-for-4 and drive in five runs as Iowa State defeated Saint Louis, 7-2, Friday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center. Iowa State moves to 16-12 this season with the win.

Lopez, who is hitting .368 over the last seven games, collected two hits and drove in three runs from the two spot in the lineup, while Heidi Kidwell went 2-for-2 and drove in two runs while as the Cyclones leadoff hitter.

Iowa State scored four runs on four hits in the second inning to jump out to the early lead.

Alex Johnson got the inning started with a single and Sydni Jones followed by drawing a walk. Tori Torrescano then singled to load the bases with no outs against the Billikens (10-8). Saint Louis pitcher Hannah Huebbe responded by retiring the next two batters before Kelsey Kidwell came through with a two-out single to plate Jones.

Heidi Kidwell then drew a bases loaded walk and Lopez doubled to left field to score two more as the Cyclones took the early 4-0 lead.

Heidi Kidwell scored again in the fifth on a throwing error to make it 5-0, but Saint Louis got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth, which was highlighted by Kelly Flanagan's run-scoring double. Rachel Faletto also drove in a run in the inning with a sacrifice fly.

In the seventh, Heidi Kidwell's RBI double brought home Kelsey Kidwell to make it 6-2. Lopez then roped her second double of the game to score Heidi Kidwell for the final tally of the game.

Torrescano (2-3) tossed a complete game to pick up her second win of the season. The freshman allowed two runs on just five hits.

Huebbe (6-3) suffered the loss, lasting just 1.2 innings and giving up four runs.

The Cyclones will begin tournament play at the Billiken Invitational. ISU faces the Saint Louis again at 11 a.m.
