Stockton, Calif. – Iowa State's offense exploded in a five-inning, run-rule victory over Santa Clara Saturday afternoon in Stockton, Calif. The Cyclones (19-10, 0-0 Big 12) were dominant in a 13-2 win over the Broncos (13-18, 0-0 WCC) to close out the Mizuno Classic with a 4-1 record.
Ten different Cyclones recorded a hit in the win, paced by multi-hit performances from Carli Spelhaug (2-of-2, HR, 2 RBI, 3 R) and Angelita Fuentes (2-of-2, 2B, 2 R, RBI). Mikayla Ramos hit her 12th home run of the season – the 26th of her career – to move into a tie for seventh all-time in Iowa State's record book.
Karlie Charles (7-2) was a force in the circle as she struck out seven and allowed only two runs on four hits, three of which came in the final inning.
Spelhaug's lead-off home run sparked a three-run opening frame for the Cyclones. Kasey Simpson and Alesia Ranches also tallied an RBI in the inning.
Iowa State followed that up with four runs in the second to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Skyler Ramos walked before a Sarah Tyree double put the pair into scoring position. The next at-bat, Fuentes brought Skyler home with an RBI single. Spelhaug then used a single down the left-field line to notch her second RBI of the afternoon, scoring Tyree. Back-to-back sac-flies from Mikayla Ramos and Angelina Allen capped the explosive inning.
Mikayla Ramos' three-run blast pushed Iowa State's lead to 10-0 in the fourth inning before a two-RBI single from Abby Gunter and an RBI single from Emilie Guerra added three more.
Down to its final three outs, Santa Clara would scrape across two runs in the top of the fifth, but it was too little, too late as Iowa State prevailed, 13-2.

Iowa State will travel to BYU for its first three-game series of the season next weekend.
