Iowa State Softball Weekend Primer

The Lead: After going 2-3 at the Doc Halverson UNI Dome Tournament last weekend, the Iowa State softball team will travel west for the first time this season as it competes in the Fresno State Kickoff Classic. The Cyclones will square off against UIC, Fresno State, Seattle and Idaho State. Iowa State opens the tournament Friday at 12:00 p.m. against UIC.

Storylines:

Iowa State's 2023 squad returns 75 percent of its stolen bases from last season, 83 percent of its at-bats and 97 percent of its innings pitched from a season ago.
Mikayla Ramos is now 16 RBIs shy of becoming Iowa State's all-time leader in RBIs. Ramos currently has 134 career RBIs.
On Saturday, Freshman Ashley Minor and Tiana Poole each hit their first career home run in a win over UNI.
Head coach Jamie Pinkerton is 15 wins shy of eclipsing his 150th win as ISU's head coach. Additionally, Pinkerton is 15 wins shy of his 500th career victory as a head coach.

Coach Pinkerton is 22 games away from coaching the 1,000th game of his career.

Switching Sides:

UIC began the 2023 campaign dropping its first three games at the Buzz Classic in Atlanta, Ga. last weekend.
UIC ended the 2022 season with a 13-32 record.
Fresno State started their season going 3-2 at home last weekend.
The Bulldogs finished 2022 with a 19-36 record.
The Seattle Redhawks were selected to finish second in the Western Athletic Conference preseason poll.
Seattle recorded three wins last week at the NorCal Kickoff in Sacramento, Calif.
Idaho State went 2-3 last week at the Cowgirl Classic in Lake Charles, La.
The Bengals finished with a 25-27 record in 2022.
