FRESNO, Calif. -- Â The Iowa State softball team (4-4) fell to the Seattle Redhawks 3-2 in their lone game on Saturday.
The Cyclones and Redhawks were scoreless until Mikayla Ramos hit her first home run of the season to give Iowa State a 1-0 lead in the third inning. As well as being Ramos' 29th career home run, the solo home run was her 135th career RBI. Ramos now ranks third all-time with 135 career RBIs and is 15 RBIs shy of becoming the school's all-time leader.
Iowa State held its 1-0 lead until the Cyclones extended its lead to 2-0 in the top half of the seventh inning.Â
In the final half inning, Seattle plated three runs to defeat Iowa State 3-2.
How It Happened
Despite four batters reaching base, Iowa State failed to plate a run in the first inning.
Sophie Maras led the Cyclones with a leadoff single to center field.
Mikayla Ramos reached on a fielder's choice.
Maras was out at second base.
Angelina Allen forced a walk.
Ramos advanced to second base.
Ashley Minor walked to load the bases.
A groundout ended the inning for ISU.
Karlie Charles held the Redhawks scoreless in the first inning.
Charles recorded two strikeouts before giving up a hit.
ISU went down in order in the top half of the second inning.
Seattle had runners reach base on back-to-back at-bats in the second inning before a Redhawk hit into an unassisted double play.
In the next at-bat, Charles forced a ground out to end the inning.
Iowa State took a 1-0 lead in the third inning.
Mikayla Ramos led off the third inning with a solo home run to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.
Ramos' RBI gave her 135 career RBIs. She now has the third-most RBIs in school history.
Karlie Charles recorded her third-straight scoreless inning in the bottom of the third.
Charles forced two ground outs and a pop out to retire the side.
The Cyclones went down in order in the fourth inning.
Seattle didn't see a batter reach base in the fourth inning.
Charles added another strikeout and forced two fly outs.
Despite putting a runner in scoring position, Iowa State failed to score a run in the top half of the fifth inning.
Ellie Spelhaug replaced Charles in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Charles final line: 4.0 IP / 0 Runs / 4 Hits / 3 strikeouts
Spelhaug recorded a strikeout and forced a ground out before a runner reached base.
The runner was caught stealing to end the inning.
After two quick outs, Iowa State loaded the bases in the sixth inning but failed to plate any runs.
Spelhaug made quick work of the Redhawks in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Spelhaug forced three quick ground outs to retire the side.
Iowa State extended its lead to 2-0 in the seventh inning.
Sophie Maras led the seventh inning off with a walk.
Maras stole second base.
Mikayla Ramos singled in the next at bat.
Maras advanced to third base.
Carli Spelhaug hit a sacrifice fly to score Maras from third.
Seattle scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh and defeated Iowa State 3-2.

On Sunday, the Cyclones will play two games to close out the final day of the Fresno State Kickoff Classic. Iowa State will begin the day with a rematch against Seattle and finish the day with a game against Idaho State. First pitch against the Redhawks is scheduled for 11 a.m. (CT) while first pitch against the Bengals is slated for 1:30 p.m.
