AMES, Iowa – Iowa State earned its second and third-straight wins of the season on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping SEMO in a weekday doubleheader. The Cyclones took game one 12-0 before taking game two 4-0.
Iowa State (16-25, 2-10 Big 12) recorded its fourth and fifth shutouts of the season, blanking the Redhawks in a makeup game following previous cancelations. Southeast Missouri State (24-11) mustered just four hits on the day, just two in each game, and dropped its first game(s) since April 1st having won ten straight.
Game One
Iowa State started the day with an offensive onslaught, plating a season-high 12 runs in five shortened innings. Karlie Charles picked up her fourth win of the season, striking out six along the way, and four players tallied multiple hits on the day. It was the fourth time this season that the Cyclones shut out their opponent.
Ochoa started the game off by taking a pitch to the wrist to get the leadoff runner on. Ramos followed suit, taking a pitch off the shoulder to get on. Angelina Allen then laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. The fourth batter, Simpson, also was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Carli Spelhaug then drove in Ochoa on an RBI groundout to put the Cyclones up 1-0.
The Cyclones tacked on five in the second, with all five runners coming across with two outs. Among the multiple RBI in the inning was Mikayla Ramos' RBI walk. The RBI pushed Ramos to 150 in her career, moving her into sole possession of second all-time in school history, and making her only the second at ISU to do so. Iowa State continued to apply pressure at the plate in the final two innings, scattering six runs on the board.
Angelina Allen and Camille Marin recorded season-highs at the plate in Tuesday's game one as both tallied three RBI. For Marin it was a career-best and her two hits matched a personal best. Carli Spelhaug was the lone other Cyclone to earn multiple RBI on the day as she knocked in a pair.

Game Two
Iowa State picked up its second win of the day in game two, taking a 4-0 victory over the OVC's first-place team and earning its second shutout of the day. Jaiden Ralston got the win for the Cyclones, as the freshman earned her fourth victory of her career while Ellie Spelhaug closed it down and earned her second save of the year.
The game started much like the first, with the Cyclones scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. With Ochoa on third and two outs, Kasey Simpson hit a grounder to short who couldn't manage the throw to first which allowed ISU to claim its first run.
The Cyclones' second run came via the long ball when Tatum Johnson crushed her first career home run over the right field wall to give ISU a 2-0 lead. Runs three and four came in the bottom of the fifth as Olivia Wardlow earned her first RBI of the season, driving in Allen while Makaylin Powers, in her first at-bat of the season, drove in Carli Spelhaug with an RBI groundout.
Though the Cyclone offense wasn't as explosive as it was in game one, the Cyclone defense and pitching remained high-level. Ralston threw four scoreless innings where she allowed just two hits. Spelhaug relived the rookie and had her second-straight outing where she allowed no runs. The senior earned her second save of the year by throwing three hitless innings and striking out a career-high seven batters.
