TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Rachel Joseph reset her 200m program record at the Terry Long FSU Relays while the women's distance squad posted strong marks at the Raleigh Relays.
Joseph got right back to her record-breaking ways in her outdoor opener resetting her 200m record with 23.37 to win the event. This is Joseph's second time breaking the outdoor 200m record, and 14th time in her ISU career to set or reset a school record through the indoor 400m, outdoor 400m and outdoor 200m.
The hurdlers posted fast outdoor openers as Jack Latham had the fastest Cyclone time of 14.03. Alec Carr clocked an all-time best 14.08 to tie the No. 8-fastest performance in school history.
Next came the 100m, where Brooklyn Sandvig hit an ISU personal best with 11.71 to improve her time at No. 7 on the program list. Prior to resetting her 200m program record, Joseph sprinted her first collegiate 100m timing in at 11.81 to debut at No. 8. For the men, Mikey McClain came just off his PR with 10.52 to take third.
At the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State, Sheridan Wheeler ran 10:14.27 in her first collegiate steeplechase, placing seventh overall in the stacked field while posting the fourth-best performance in Iowa State history.
Freshman Becca Heitzig came just off the 1,500m top 10 program list with 4:21.01 running the event for the first time. Heitzig placed 34th among the field of over 200 including numerous professionals.
In the 5,000m, Bella Heikes went sub-16 with 15:59.06, the 10th-fastest performance in Iowa State history. It was the junior's first time running the event on the track. Riley Beach hit a 30-second personal best with 16:25.29, while sophomore Sydney Morrell clocked 16:25.77. Morrell also ran the event on the track for the first time.
Next up, ISU heads to the Stanford Invite April 4-5 and the Emporia State Midwest Classic April 4.
