CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Iowa State (10-3, 0-0 Big 12) fell to Loyola Marymount (6-8, 0-0 WCC), 4-1, Saturday night in Cathedral City, Calif.
The Cyclones mustered only one run on one hit in the contest, an RBI double from Natalie Wellet with two outs in the seventh inning. LMU's Jenna Perez (2-3) finished with 11 strikeouts in her no-hit bid.
Saya Swain (4-1) suffered the loss in the circle for the Cyclones after allowing four runs on eight hits. Ellie Spelhaug entered in relief of Swain in the sixth inning and finished with a pair of strikeouts.
Loyola Marymount struck first in the third inning with two runs on two hits. A two-run homer in the fifth inning doubled the Lions' lead, 4-0.
Iowa State threatened in the bottom of the fifth, despite not registering a hit, using a pair of walks and a wild pitch to place runners on the corners with one out. The Cyclones were unable to bring home a run, however, as Perez used back-to-back strikeouts to circumvent any trouble.
