Cyclones Kick Off Action at Texas A&M, Drake

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Iowa State kicked off the 44 Farms Team Invite at Texas A&M while another squad of Cyclones competed at Drake's Jim Duncan Invite.
In the hammer throw at the 44 Farms Team Invite, Garret Wagner threw a personal best of 192-10 (58.78m) to place 10th, nearly making the final out of flight one. Wagner moves up a spot to ninth in Iowa State history.
Chase Lathrop took on his first decathlon and leads the Cyclones standing in seventh after five of 10 events with 3,732. First-year Cyclone Cooper Spurgeon sits in 12th with 3,598, while indoor NCAA champion Mississippi State's Peyton Bair leads the standings with 4,292. Spurgeon posted personal bests in the first two events with a 100m time of 11.24 and long jump mark of 22-7 ¾ (6.90m), and hit an outdoor best in the shot put (41-11 ¼, 12.78m).
The day began with Kiersten Fisher competing throughout heptathlon events. Fisher first clocked a personal best of 13.89 in 100m hurdles for eighth, totaling 994 points. The time came just .03 off the all-time program top 10. Fisher then hit a shot put best of 35-6 (10.82m), a PR by over a foot.
At the Jim Duncan Invite at Drake, the 1,500m invite was the featured event as the Cyclone men and women showed their dominance. Emanuel Galdino (3:40.09) and Devan Kipyego (3:40.49) went one-two for the men, recording the No. 8 and No. 9 fastest performances in Iowa State history. Nathan Pestka and Hanibal Haile also hit PRs as they made their ISU debuts.
For the women, Riley Beach led the Cyclones to second with an all-time best of 4:20.60, now the ninth-fastest performance in school history. Maelle Porcher came in third in her season debut with 4:21.45, while ISU had six in the top 10.
The 44 Farms Team Invite continues tomorrow with events beginning at 10:30 a.m.
