Joseph Breaks 400 Facility Record, 200 ISU Record

TUCSON, Ariz. – Rachel Joseph broke the 400m facility record and reset her 200m program record at the Desert Heat Classic to highlight the penultimate week of outdoor regular season.
Joseph went 50.79 in the 400m for the win, a time that ranks eighth nationally just .05 seconds off her school record and all-time best of 50.74 set at U.S. Olympic Trials. The junior trimmed .31 off her season best set at Texas A&M three weeks ago, a dominant time drop in the event.
The previous facility record stood at 50.90, set by UCLA's Monique Henderson in 2004.
Joseph then clocked a wind-legal 23.36 in the 200m to once again reset a school record. It's her third time setting or resetting the outdoor 200m record, and 15th time through all her school records (indoor 400m, outdoor 400m, outdoor 200m).
Sophomore Brooklyn Sandvig placed eighth overall right behind Joseph with a PR of 23.42, now the second-fastest performance in Iowa State history. Sandvig moves up from No. 4.
In hurdles, all three men clocked season or personal best. Jack Latham was the fastest Cyclone with a wind-legal 110m hurdles time of 13.89. Alec Carr followed right behind with a personal record of 13.91 to move up from No. 9 to No. 7 in ISU history, while Grayson Hartman clocked an all-conditions best of 14.26w.
Carr returned for the 400m hurdles, turning in another top 10-ranked program performance with a 51.15, No. 10 on the list.
The women's 4x100m squad added the first addition to the program top 10 list since 2021 with their time of 45.74, now the ninth-fastest program time. The men's 4x100m finishes with a season-best 40.49, .25 seconds off the ISU top 10.
Iowa State closes regular season next Friday, May 9 hosting the Cyclone Twilight at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
