AMES, Iowa – Iowa State closed the Bill Bergan Open with three top-10 ranked program performances to open 2025.
The men's 1,000m runners kicked off the meet strong as Emanuel Galdino made a big jump up the all-time program list. Galdino cut over two seconds from his previous best clocking 2:19.74 to move up from No. 8 to No. 3, just over a second off the ISU record.
Tyler Carreon also cut time off his 1,000m best set this past December with 2:23.07 to take second, and Said Mechaal finished third with 2:23.33.
Galdino then returned for the 800m, taking the win with no problem in 1:48.75. The time is an indoor best for the distance runner and just off the program top 10 list.
Blake Veenstra put up a massive performance in the shot put with 62-5 (19.02m), a nearly three feet personal best he hit on his first attempt to now rank sixth in school history. The mark currently ranks eighth in the country.
Jadan Brumbaugh also hit a top 10 ISU performance turning in an indoor personal record to win the shot put, tying the No. 8-ranked performance with 50-4 ½ (15.35m).
In the weight throw, Cam Jones won with another mark on the season over 70 feet, hitting 70-8 (21.54m) on his fifth throw.
Rachel Joseph kicked off her season with a personal best in the 60m of 7.66, .01 off the 10th-fastest performance in school history. Joseph then left no doubt in the 300m with the win in 37.15.
In the women's long jump, Cyclones took first through fourth led by Ava Cinnamo with an indoor-best 19-0 ½ (5.80m). Kailynn Gubbels hit an all-time best of 18-7 ¾ for second while Kiersten Fisher (18-5, indoor PR) and Amari Laing placed third and fourth.
Next up for Iowa State is the Cyclone Open next Friday, Jan. 24.
