Alex Wilson Invite, Saturday, February 22
The men's 800m crew and men's distance medley relay pool head to Arkansas, while the women's distance medley relay squad heads to Notre Dame, Ind. looking to post a qualifying time for NCAA Indoor Championships at the Alex Wilson Invite hosted by Notre Dame. Men and women will also compete at the Iowa Open.
Iowa State's men's DMR has qualified for NCAA Indoors six times in school history, including five of the past six seasons. In 2024, the squad earned First Team All-America anchored by current Cyclone Silas Winder's mile split of 3:54.83. Iowa State's school record of 9:24.07 ranks 11th in collegiate history heading into DMR weekend. ISU will compete against host Arkansas, defending-champion Oklahoma State, Virginia and Oregon.
The women's DMR sets their sights on making history as the first Iowa State women to qualify for nationals in the NCAA era. The Cyclones took the DMR national title in 1981 while women competed under the AIAW. Iowa State's relay team includes All-Americans Makayla Clark, Rachel Joseph and Maelle Porcher, in addition to freshman Becca Heitzig who posted the fifth-ranked indoor 800m performance last week.
