DES MOINES, Iowa – The men's 4x1,600m squad won a Drake Relays title, while the men and women's 4x800m relays took silver in day three.
Iowa State earned its first Drake Relays title of the day in the 4x1,600m, the 12th in program history for the men and first since 2022. ISU now ties Illinois for the most wins in the event in Relays history.
Quinton Orr led off, staying with the pack before opening a gap in the final lap and handing off to freshman Joash Ruto. From there, Ruto built a commanding lead the Cyclones never relinquished. Fellow freshman Robin Kwemoi Bera took the stick next before Devan Kipyego anchored the team to a time of 16:38.06, winning it by 20 seconds.
Both 4x800m squads took silver, with the women posting the third-fastest performance in school history. Kaia Holtkamp, Becca Heitzig, Riley Beach and Makayla Clark clocked 8:40.86 to make the first addition to the program list since 2018. For the men, Dugion Blackman, Leroy Russell III, Darius Kipyego and Emanuel Galdino clocked 7:23.10, now the 10th-best performance in school history. Kipyego had the fastest split among the entire field with 1:48.19.
In the women's 4x1,600m, Sydney Morrell, Olivia Verde, Mya Trober and McKinley Wheeler combined for 19:56.33 for fourth place behind Oregon State, Notre Dame and Utah.

In the university/college division of the triple jump, Ava Cinnamo won with a leap of 40-3 ¼ (12.27m), hitting the mark in the sixth and final round. Cinnamo led the competition from the first round and improved on her mark four times.
Brandon Fischer hit a big discus personal best with 179-4 (54.66m) to take bronze in the university/college division, downing his previous best of 171-10.

Freshman Riyah Burns came one spot short of advancing to the 100m hurdles final with an all-conditions best of 13.80w. Kiersten Fisher finished 12th in prelims with 13.98w.
The women's 4x100m relay sprinted their way to the final with the seventh-fastest time in prelims. Amari Laing, Karynne David, Cameron Moon and Brooklyn Sandvig clocked 46.16, .04 seconds off the all-time top 10 program list.
The men's squad of Grayson Hartman, Gus Langford, Ty Koehnk and Mikey McClain raced next to a time of 40.67 for fifth, also qualifying for the final. The squads will race again tomorrow for Drake Relays Cup points.
